Gift Guide // Big Girls

Hello! I know in “blogger world” this gift guide would be considered late. However, that’s just how I roll. This guide is perfect for girls ages say six to ten. I have several of these things already ordered for the girls and included some of our favorites from years past. Enjoy!

gif guide for big girls

guitar // knit slippers kit // record player // BB gun // slippers // fun vintage record // friendship bracelet maker // illustory // polaroid

This guitar is so cool. It is made of real wood and your purchase includes access to their free app that has everything your kiddo needs to play songs: video lessons, a tuner, and a digital songbook.

The girls are both getting this knit slipper kit. It will be the perfect little handicraft to keep their hands occupied during read aloud time. Could we sound any more homeschooled? I love it!

record player is an investment….BUT we use ours everyday and it has just been another very important transitional part of our new family routine. It requires intention and forces you to slow down for a second to select a record, put it on, and flip it over when the times comes. Nostalgia forever, man.

We get a lot of our vintage records at local antique stores, but here is a great place online. Try searching for their favorite artist or looking for read-aloud vinyls, all three of my children love those. The girls would lovethis Tchaikovsky vinyl.

A BB gun is a classic kids gift any kid would be pumped to get. It’s a great opportunity to teach them gun safety and how to act around firearms. Don’t forget the safety goggles!

This illustory is SO cool and a really unique gift! They create their own story, draw pictures to go along with it, and then you send it in and they turn it in to a REAL BOOK.

We got our girls these cameras a couple years back and the pictures that come from them are always amazing. It’s so fun to see their creative eye and also preserve memories from their perspective at the same time. Highly recommend.

Another fun idea is this game. The girls learned to play chess solely playing against each other and now Sophie can beat Josh on occasion.

Some book series Ellie loves are Brambly Hedge and  Amelia Bedelia. She’s in first grade. Sophie loved the Boxcar Children series, we found a huge set of them at Costco a while back, so check there. We also absolutely adore the Little House Series, and in my opinion, its one every household needs!

For collection and pretty bookshelf purposes, these books are gorgeous and classic literature!

Here are some more ideas and I’ll add to it as I think of anything else!
xx, Whitney

toddler boy gift guide

I know you may have already started Christmas shopping, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll be shopping all the way up to Christmas. So I figured, why not share the things we already have for Jude or am planning on getting him for Christmas this year. So here we go…You can click on each picture and it will take you right to the product or you can read a super unnecessary description of each item below that.

beanie // We love these Carhartt beanies for Jude. Josh + I wear them too. Best fit + not too hot but still warm enough!

garbage truck // I’m so excited for Jude to open this one. He is obsessed with the garbage truck. Seriously, what is it with boys + the garbage truck? This one dumps the trash in with just a lever + then you can dump it out the back – plus it makes noise. He will LOVE it.

super hero doll // Jude usually plays rough with all the girls’ Barbies + they are not here for it. So, we figured it was time to get him his own Barbie sized dolls. He is going to love this Batman!

tree house // The girls each have their own dollhouse and Jude loves to play with his animals in his own treehouse. This is a little pricier, but its beautiful and he loves it, so it was worth the price!

brother mouse // We got one of these for all three kids! Jude always wants to play with his sisters’ mice, so now he will have his own! Plus, the girls didn’t have a “brother mouse” yet. So , they’re all going to love this + it comes in its’ own little carrying case.

wooden grill // We decided not to get this, but I really want someone else to get it! How adorable is that? Great for their fine motor skills too!

fart gun // Yes, I spent $30 on a toy that makes fart noises + it might be the thing I am most excited for him to open. Fart noises are hilarious over here + I can guarantee my kids will fight over this toy.

cash register // This one is aesthetically pleasing + the kids love using it to play store. Win-win!

toy story pajamas // These are self explanatory. I don’t know a little boy who doesn’t love Toy Story!

shopping cart // All of my kids love to play kitchen + store. So this is really a toy for all of them. Plus it’s beautiful + I won’t mind having it out in my living room when the toys inevitably migrate from their playroom.

toy story dolls // Jude is going to lose his mind when he opens these!

helmet // This is technically an adult helmet, but homie has a huge dome, so…. if your child has a normal sized melon you may want to keep looking.

bike // Both of our girls learned to ride bikes by starting with a balance bike. So much easier! This color is sold out, but they have others available.

magna tiles // These are pricey but worth every penny. All three of my kids play with these + I love that they are an open ended toy. They end up using their imagination so much while playing with them.

vans // We love Vans shoes for Jude. He especially love the Velcro pairs because he can do it himself. Love them in this color.

That’s it for now. Hoping to get a girl’s guide up soon, but we shall see! Hope that was helpful for you! Happy Shopping!

Holiday Gift Guide: For Kids

Hey there,

So I don’t know about you, but I have been really struggling with what to get my girls for Christmas this year. The “it” toys just don’t appeal to me and to be honest I know they get played with for all of 5 minutes and promptly abandoned to the toy box.  The girls are 5 and 3 and I feel like it keeps getting harder every year. Kinda like parenting in general, funny how that works. I still don’t know what to get my own kids, but thought this might help you with yours. These are past Christmas gifts that my girls play with EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. No lie! Hope it helps.

This Modern Farmhouse || Holiday Gift Guide for Kids 2017

one. // two. // three. // four. // five. // six. // seven. // eight. // nine.

one. // This one is a no brainer. If your kids don’t have a play kitchen yet, you are seriously missing out on some quiet time. We don’t have this exact one, but looking back, I would totally get this one because — storage!

two. // I didn’t expect these to be as  big of a hit as it is, but my girls play with them so much. They use them to take food orders, too, so perfect to go along with the kitchen.

three. // We got this camera for Sophie’s last birthday. She loves it. We give her film as rewards for really good behavior or when we’re feeling generous. ha. It’s so fun to see the world as she views it.

four. // We got this play table for Sophie before Eloise was even born. There are tons of cute tutorials on Pinterest on how to make it unique for your space or you can leave it natural too.

five. // Eloise for sure uses this more than Sophie. She’s our little bag lady and fills the cart up with all her puppies and pushes it all around the house. This is a sturdy, well made toy that will for sure last through multiple children.

six. // The girls love their mice. They are very well made and they have races across the floor on them or sit on them to watch tv and sometimes even eat snacks on. Sophie is perfecting her spin move and Eloise is really just working on counting down from 3 to begin the “race.”

seven. // This playhouse is adorable. If you have a child who loves to with dolls, then this is a great bet. So beautifully made.

eight. // Both girls love to draw.  Sophie has started practicing all the things she’s learning in Kindergarten and Elle draws 95% on this, 5% on something else we own. Progress.

nine. // Santa usually brings one of the for each girl in their stocking. It helps with bath time, seriously. If you have kids who whine about every damn bath they have to take, get some.

So I’m curious, what are you getting your kids this year?

Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2017

Hey there! Thought I would share my Mother’s Day wish list with you all! I realize it’s pretty late in the game. In reality, all I want is a day where my kids are well behaved all day, no one loses their shit at the drop of a hat (myself included), I get 12 hours of sleep, and a sparkling clean house without any of the effort. Since none of that will happen, here are some material items that I thought might lessen the sting of my reality in the trenches of motherhood. All sarcasm aside, motherhood is truly the best thing that has ever happened to me. I won’t bore you with the specifics, because I’m sure you love your offspring as much as I love mine. So without further ado….

Embroidered Tee // Perforated Booties // Bouquet // Curling Wand // iPhone Case // Hat // Custom Art

So let me hear it ladies, what are you hoping your husband buys for your children to give to you on Mother’s Day?
